2016 United States Vice Presidential Debate PolitOpinion POLL – October 4, 2016

The Vice presidential debate will take place on Tuesday, October 4 at Virginia’s Longwood University, moderated by Elaine Quijano of CBS.

Format

The debate will consist of nine segments, each 10 minutes in length. The moderator will ask an opening question and each candidate will have two minutes to respond, with the remaining time to be used for a deeper discussion of the topic.

Timothy MichaelTimKaine (born February 26, 1958) is an American attorney and politician. He served as the junior United States Senator from Virginia. A Democrat, Kaine was elected to the Senate in 2012. He is the nominee of his party for Vice President of the United States in the 2016 election.

Michael RichardMikePence (born June 7, 1959) is an American politician, attorney, and the 50th Governor of Indiana. He is the Republican Party nominee for Vice President of the United States in the 2016 election.

After losing two bids for a U.S. congressional seat in 1988 & 1990, he became a conservative radio and TV talk show host from 1994 to 1999. Pence successfully ran for Congress in 2000. He represented Indiana’s 2nd congressional district and Indiana’s 6th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013. He rose to the position of chairman of the House Republican Conference from 2009 to 2011.

In 2012 Pence was elected the 50th Governor of Indiana. In the midst of a re-election campaign for governor, Pence was chosen as the vice presidential running mate for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Pence is a conservative and a supporter of the Tea Party movement.

Tim Kaine Personal life

In November 1984, Kaine married Anne Bright Holton, the daughter of A. Linwood Holton Jr. The couple met while they were both students at Harvard Law School. Holton has been a judge for the Virginia Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court in Richmond. After serving as first lady of Virginia during her husband’s term, she was appointed by Governor Terry McAuliffe in January 2014 to be Virginia’s secretary of education. She held that position until July 2016, when she stepped down after her husband was named as the Democratic vice presidential candidate. Kaine and his wife have been congregants of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Richmond for 30 years.

He has played the harmonica for over twenty years, and often travels with several. Kaine is fluent in Spanish as a result of his year in Honduras.

Mike Pence Personal life

Pence and his wife Karen Pence have been married since 1985. They have three children: Michael, Charlotte, and Audrey. During his service in the U.S. House, the Pence family lived in Arlington, Virginia, when Congress was in session. Michael Pence’s son is a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.

Pence was raised in a Catholic family, serving as an altar boy and attending parochial school. Pence has described himself as “a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order,” and as “a born-again, evangelical Catholic.”
