Donald Trump Wins Missouri
Donald Trump Inches out Ted Cruz in Missouri
It appears that GOP frontrunner Donald Trump slightly edged out Ted Cruz in Missouri on Tuesday night. Trump took 40.7 percent of the votes in the Show Me State with 100 percent of the votes tallied.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is close behind at 40.6 percent–down by approximately 1,700 votes. With this small a margin, Cruz could potentially ask for a recount. However, since Missouri is not a winner-take-all primary, the recount fight may not yield many new delegates even if he is ultimately declared the state’s winner.
Cruz’s campaign has not responded to inquiry from Breitbart News about whether they will contest Tuesday’s results or call for a recount.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich took third place with 10.1 percent, while Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who ended his campaign late Tuesday night, placed fourth with 6.1 percent.
There are 52 delegates awarded in Missouri and they are allocated proportionately.
UPDATE:
“The recount law in Missouri allows a second-place finisher to request a recount if the margin of victory is less than half a percentage point,” CNN reports. “Early Wednesday morning, Cruz’s campaign manager told CNN’s Sunlen Serfaty that at this time the Cruz campaign has ‘no plans’ to request a recount.”
Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in Missouri in the General Election.
